At Trotters, Making Childhood Memories is what we do best; This family-held passion has driven us since 1990, and continues to inspire us today.

Meet Dunwoody N' Trotter: Tailor Extraordinaire

Born:

London, 1990, from a family of East End cobblers

Job:

Master tailor and shoe fitter for the tiniest of feet. Legend says that he uses golden thread in his clothes to make children feel like a prince or princess.

Favourite Food:

A hearty roast with all the trimmings, followed by a slice of Victoria sponge (with extra cream, of course).

Fun Fact:

He once made a pair of shoes that could make you jump higher—true story, he swears by it! Rumour has it he lost a customer to the clouds once.

Special Skill:

He can measure a child’s foot, make them giggle, and tell their future—or at least what they’ll want for tea—all in one go.

Secret Hobby:

Collecting antique buttons—his favourite is a gold one from Queen Victoria’s era.

What’s in His Pocket:

Lollipops in every flavour, including “Tickleberry Twist” and “Invisible Lime.”

My lasting memory is the day that we unlocked the doors at number 34 King’s Road, back in 1990. Richard and I had worked for weeks to ensure that every detail was perfect. We wanted to create a fun and relaxing environment for children and parents and I remember vividly the combination of excitement and fear. By the time the clock struck 9am, there were queues outside that stretched around the corner. And like that, Trotters was born!

We had worked tirelessly the night before the opening of the King’s Road store. The concept of bringing everything under one roof - clothing, shoes, hairdressing, toys and books - had never been done before and I could not wait to hear what the customers thought of it. So I sneaked out and joined the queues. Excited children and parents were ready to step into the world of Trotters for the first time and I will never forget that feeling of joy.

Growing up, I watched the stores evolve through the years—the different layouts, the new ideas, and the ever-changing details that made them so special. I can still remember the excitement of getting a haircut, whether it was in Noah’s Ark, in a rocket with glowing lava lamps, or in front of the iconic fish tanks that remain today. Now, I get to see Trotters growing every day, but that look of joy in children's eyes when they step through our doors is unchanged.
