Sophie's Petits pots au chocolat et à la vanilla

This is a recipe from my childhood which my mother used to make as a special treat. I still cannot decide which is my favourite flavour, which is why I make up both in one go!

Sophie's Petits pots au chocolat et à la vanilla Recipe

  • 500ml full-fat milk
  • 2 eggs + 1 egg yolk
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 70g golden caster sugar
  • 50g dark chocolate
  1. Preheat oven to 160°C.
  2. Split the vanilla pod and scrape out the vanilla seeds. Put both in a saucepan with the milk and bring to simmering point. Take off the heat and leave for 30 minutes and then strain through a thin sieve.
  3. Beat the eggs with the sugar for a good minute, then gradually pour in the warm milk whilst whisking all the time.
  4. Melt the chocolate.
  5. Split the liquid in two and mix the chocolate into one half. You could add the zest of an orange into this if you like the taste of chocolate orange.
  6. Pour into ramekins or small pots/cups that are heatproof.
  7. Cook the chocolate pots for 30 minutes and the vanilla ones for 35 minutes in the preheated oven.
  8. Remove and let cool before refrigerating overnight.

  Et voila!
